Mr. Butsch’s practice is primarily in the area of litigation, which includes both tort and general business litigation. Mr. Butsch has prosecuted and defended civil cases of many types throughout the St. Louis metropolitan region as well as rural Missouri and Illinois. Mr. Butsch has successfully litigated contract, product liability and insurance claims, and has considerable experience in the defense of personal injury actions, including toxic torts.

Mr. Butsch has tried numerous civil cases through jury verdict and has argued before the Missouri Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Mr. Butsch has successfully litigated multimillion dollar class action claims, and has considerable experience in the defense and prosecution of catastrophic injury cases, including vehicular accident matters. He recently obtained a defendant’s verdict for an insurance company client in a jury trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The plaintiff in the case, an accident victim, was quadriplegic. In another recent case, Mr. Butsch won a $4 million dollar jury verdict in a lawsuit arising from an industrial accident. Mr. Butsch’s clients include insurance companies, banks and self-insureds. He regularly provides counsel to various business entities concerning liability issues.

Mr. Butsch is active in the Missouri Bar and regularly lectures on various aspects of litigation practice. He serves as civil procedure editor of Missouri Courts and CLE Bulletin, a publication of the Missouri Bar.
